We lost a good man yesterday. His name is @cadre_roony Cadre Josh (aka “Roony”) and he’s a US Army Ranger. I met Roony in GORUCK’s Mog Mile of October 2017. When my team was performing so badly that the other cadre wanted to cancel the event in the middle of the night, Roony helped us get back on our feet and crush it. We became one of their top favorite teams, thanks to Roony. He taught us his Ranger bushwhacking skills in the back woods of Seattle at 2:00-4:00 am. I remember sneaking through neighborhoods and blazing trails straight up the mountain in the pitch black with this guy. By the time we were done, Roony was so proud of my team that he insisted we had earned our patches and the other cadre agreed. Roony wasn’t tall but he looked like he could deadlift a car and rip doors off tanks. He was full of life and no nonsense and “never quit.” He died last night of pancreatic cancer. Right now I can guarantee you: there are hundreds of Rangers and civilians adding a rep to their workout today and saying, “One more for the Airborne Ranger in the sky” for Cadre Roony. He changed my idea of sacrifice and brotherhood forever. God speed, warrior.
